| Why It's Important to Know if There Is Mold in a Home You May Be Purchasing |
|
Mold is found in homes much more more often than you would imagine. A typical pre-purchase home inspection is limited to visible mold and guidance on what needs to be done to correct it. But, in some cases, an indoor environmental mold professional may be needed to test for mold. With our inspectors all being Certified Indoor Enviromental Specialist, you may be advised to have one of our mold inspections performed. many times, to the dismay of the seller, the buyer, and the real estate agent, mold inspection reports have ended negotiations for a home sale. If you own a home that's already contaminated by mold, that's one thing, and by now you know remediation is in order. But if you're purchasing a home, make sure any mold problems are corrected beforehand. Keep in mind, mold remediation can cost many thousands of dollars. In addition to the remediation expense, you may have an additional cost for alternative housing, since in many cases, you can't stay in the house during remediation. The process can take from one to ten weeks, and is only the first phase. After the remediation is completed, the home must be restored and/or repaired. this may include replacing drywall, insulation, cabinetry, ductwork, and whatever else was removed during the remediation process, plus painting. Always take into consideration that there is a cost to have your home restored to livable. And of course, along with the cost comes the time it take for both these task.
